Joanna Estelle (Canada) has been awarded Global Music Award’s Best in Show honors for her album Transmutation in the categories contemporary classical and composer. This project features intense and stirring compositions drawing from Estelle’s family history and personal tragedy. She effortlessly evokes pain, grief, longing, strife, and growth in this ultimately cathartic and uplifting record. The latter half of the album is a magnificent choral adaptation of liturgy texts from Estelle’s historical homeland of Ukraine. These delicate compositions are performed exquisitely by a variety of talented collaborators, Trio Casals, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Ewashko Singers, who bring wonderful life and feeling to every track.
